It has been an amazing week with all the workers repairing the house. Working here is so different from in the US, with everything being manual work. We are currently fixing the steel windows, digging a latrine, building a kitchen and fence.... simply doing what needs to be done to prepare the houses for the precious children that will soon live there. Its a blessing to be able to give these guys work, making a humble $1.20 a day - $2.50 depending on the trade. The conditions some of these people live in are hard to see. The lack of water and no electricity has always been "the norm" for them. Beyond that, its a hard life here in general.
.
Isai and Pontien have been supervising everything. They all know Isai is a "firm leader" for lack of better words.... hes doing an amazing job and yes, they have all come to realize that when they come to work. They will work. Yesterday they had a holiday for "peace" in the country, we allowed all the workers to take a 2 hour break to go gather with the community in drums and singing. They have many holidays here, one for every leader who was assassinated... and if you don't know Burundian History... there have been quite a few! We leave for the US in just 3 weeks and will have the houses completely repaired before our departure! As soon as we arrive back in January, we will begin hiring staff and taking in the children! In our absence, our Assistant Director Pontien will be doing staff interviews along with child assessment and investigations on orphaned children in need. Things are moving forward and God's hand is orchestrating everything in His timing. Faithful He is, and His mission for Burundi will not tarry. Until next time...
