Our Toothbrushing Class for the children in Bwiza!

"The children rushed in from the streets as they heard the tooth brushing class was open to all!"
We had prepared a class to teach on how to properly brush your teeth at a local church in Bwiza last weekend! After church, there were only about 10 children present for the class. Having prepared for many more, we made the simple comment "invite some of the children in the streets". Needless to say... our 10 rapidly turned to 70! The children poured in as they were anxious to learn and to talk about their own teeth. I posed a question "Where are the most important places to brush? One answer "Your tongue"! Many of the responses were humorous, as we took two children to show an example of good tooth brushing. You know, I used to think I knew how to brush my teeth properly, until one day working at a children's home the staff were asked to take a class from dental hygienist on how to brush our teeth; that in return we could teach the children. As we chuckled at this request being adults, we were soon to find out we knew very little about the angle of the toothbrush while brushing, the areas that build the most plaque etc. After work, I ran home informing Isai of all the important things I had learned! During these classes, we want to show children first hand how to care for their teeth as we have seen many children and adults with tooth aches. We received a generous donation of toothbrushes prior to returning back to Burundi, which has made this all possible. Thank you Spring of Life and to the kids, for caring enough to make a difference! We thank everyone who is supporting TCOAC and who has stood by our sides, we are able to bring a better tomorrow for many because of you. Until next time....
