Remembering why we are here...

A few days ago, I went to the local hospital in the mountains to get some advice and get Malaki's stool checked for ameba's. Our son had diarrhea the whole week and was vomiting. As I waited for the workers to call the head of the Laboratory to come from his home, I was sitting next to a woman who was looking intently at her child with so much concern. Her child has Meningitis and it was obvious that she was physically suffering right before our eyes. I asked the doctor what he would give or do in this situation and he said there isn't much they could do. My eyes began to tear as I watched her looking upon her sick child, with no solution... and simply not knowing what the future would hold for her baby. I thought if there were only experienced doctors who would be able to teach the doctors and nurses here from their knowledge and experiences... children like this wouldn't have to suffer. As I look towards the door, a 14 year old boy walks in with his broken arm sitting uncomfortably in a sling made from a cardboard box. He and his mother had walked a long way down the mountain to come to the hospital (as I listened to their conversation with the nurse). I looked him deep in the eyes and seeing his pain I thought "Lord, heal him". They gave him a shot for his pain and sent him on his way for the night. As I sat in this hospital room, I began to remember why we choose to do a clinic within our projects here in Burundi. We have been blessed with first class healthcare abroad and we are compelled to help see Burundi grow in this area. We are here to do orphan homes, a clinic and a trade school to help the local people rise above the years of war and poverty. Will you help us... to help them today? Make a difference today. (Pictured above is our son Malaki; feeling much much better!)Until next time...
